Trailblaze IT support Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) charity, who provide eye care and prescription glasses to school children in Africa. For every 25 IT support requests we receive from our schools, we donate an eye test and pair of glasses to a school child in Africa. We are very excited to have been allocated the school that we support, which is Kazala Primary School, in the Petauke District, Zambia.

Kazala Primary School is a public school run by the Government, it has 13 teachers (10 regular teachers and 3 volunteer teachers) and a total of 840 pupils (450 girls and 390 boys).

Our contribution will help VAO to implement the Comprehensive School Eye Health Program in Petauke District, targeting in full 50,000 learners from 100 schools, and Kazala Primary School is among these 100 targeted schools. Thanks to this programme, VAO will train teachers in eye health to prepare them for the eye screening of pupils in their school.

VAO are completing the eye screening sessions at Kazala Primary School over these next few weeks. During this screening exercise, teachers will be able to identify students with eye problems who will then be examined by eye health professionals through the mobile eye health clinics. Those students with URE (Uncorrected Refractive Error) will be prescribed glasses and those students with eye infections will receive further treatment with prescribed eye drops. The aim of the mobile eye clinics is not only to identify those students who are struggling, but also to train teachers to recognise the students who struggle to see.

This programme wants to solidly establish an eye health clinic for Kazala Primary School (as well as other schools in Zambia) and there will be future training and regular screenings according to their needs. Trailblaze IT are proud to support this worthy cause.
